I just released a movie on my other account. I thought it was pretty good, and apparently, so did 200 other people; it passed judgment at 3.93.

I logged off and came back a half hour later. In that time, 37 more people voted, and the score dropped from 3.93 to 3.70.
WTF!

I haven't released a movie on the portal in a few months, maybe I missed something. Is this common? Why would I have a 3.93 average from 200 voters, then after the score is visible, 37 more people came in and dropped it by .23 points?

Either this is a fluke, just some bad luck, or there is something fundamentally wrong with the Newgrounds rating system...

Comments are appreciated.

The NG Treasure Hunt always produces some great results. As you know, Tom asks us to submit suggestions for undiscovered content. I always want to suggest my own stuff, but that would be kind of lame, right? So how about this:

We'll have our own Treasure Hunt Contest with one difference. You can only suggest your own past works. A Selfish Treasure Hunt, if you will...

So reply with one of your past flash submissions that you want to show off, and when I can post to the front page again next week, I'll pick a winner!

What do you think?

I posted last week proposing a change to the voting system (making it so you cant vote multiple times per movie) and got mixed feedback, but it made me wonder.

If you could make one change or addition to NG? What would it be?

I would love to see more RSS syndication options. What if everyone could have a personalized RSS feed that they could customize to receive updates on only thin things they wanted. Maybe you want your RSS feed to update with only the top new games daily, the top 5 new submissions, and latest Newgroudns news posts, and I might want updates on when a particular author makes a new movie, the weekly top 20, and the top daily audio portal submissions. Just tuns of possible combinations. Then you can plug the feed into your favorite RSS aggregate and your all set.

What about you?

The new layout has been here for a few months now, everyone is very excited about the NG comunity growing, thanks to the new features and all the cool new stuff to come. But there is a very real problem that has always been a part of newgrounds in a small way that, this past summer, became very hard to ignore.

I'm talkign about downvoting. The Rock Ount contest itself was a great oppertunity for people to attempt to win some huge prizes (myself included). But it had a horrible side effect. For 2 months, rockout games were vulnerable to downvoting by they're competition, and with over 100 games in the contest, thats alot of competition.

People like Johnny Sedona, creator of We Are Legend:Arockalypse have talked about this in they're userpage, and they have every right to be mad. We Are Legend:Arockalypse is an awesome game, but when Johnny Sedona made his post, the game was at a score of 3.15, that is a travisty.

What I'm proposing is a change in a system that has been generaly the same for years. There is no reason why we need to vote multiple times on one entry, even over the course of multiple days. The score we give to a movie or game is what we think of that submission on a scale of 1-5. Why would we need to vote again if we already gave our opinion. Perhaps we would be able to change our one vote at a later date, but we should only actually be able to count for one vote. Its the fair thing to do, and I'm asking Tom and the rest of the NG staff and community to take this idea seriously.

If you support a change in the voting system, or some way to prevent down voting, please make a post in your user page and syndicate it to the front page. Lets make a change and make the voting system fair.

I was doing some work on NG, looking through some submissions on an old account and when I tried to log in, I couldn't remember the PW. I sent an email to Wade for some help, and when I got back from GMail, I saw the under construction page and almost screamed like a schoolgirl in the middle of my job. I was so excited that I wanted to make something to commemorate the new layout. So I took the under construction animation and made a little game out of it, poking fun at the past Rock Out contest, and the layout itself.

Check it out:

Everyone seems to like it, so thats great. Anyway, the layout looks awesome, cant wait to play with all the new stuff.
